❤️ ELMO ❤️
Terrier cross, 30 lbs., 1 year old
Elmo is so sweet and so cuddly! His favorite place is asleep on the couch next to his people. He can be bouncy and excited but isn't overly energetic. He's very mellow around the house after a good walk and sniff-time outside.
Elmo is gentle and mellow with the kids in his foster home and gets along well with the smaller female resident dog. He plays very gently with her, though he can get excited and briefly forget she's smaller than he is. Mr. Elmo is also a bit of a “thief” and wants to take anything she's interested in. 😉 This could get him into trouble with another dog, but he can be easily discouraged from doing that.
Elmo is crate trained, fetches, and loves to play tug! He's walking great on a leash, though a little leery of people in the neighborhood, so giving him space to be comfortable is recommended. With more socialization and practice, he will be able to move past this hurdle.
Elmo’s prior history is unknown to us, and our hearts break when a sweet dog has so much potential but has minor challenges to overcome. 💔 Sweet Elmo is very fearful when people come to his foster home. He barks and growls to keep people away and protect his home. He is not aggressive, but the behavior can be off putting. He will need calm, consistent, leadership to reassure Elmo that he doesn't have to defend himself and that he is safe. Ongoing training, to build confidence and security, is vital to helping him to achieve the balanced mindset he is seeking. Slow and patient introductions to people visiting his house are important to his development and peace of mind.
Elmo is so deserving of a loving and patient home. One where his person, or people, will work through his insecurities alongside him and help showcase the incredible sweetness he demonstrates when he feels 100% safe. He’s a good boy and we know his people are out there.
