Meet Royce
ROYCE
BREED: Terrier blend
AGE: approx. 1 year
WEIGHT: 13 lbs.
Long bio- please read fully.
Royce’s foster family has been such a bright light in his life and has spent a lot of time getting to know him, so his biography accurately describes the sweet boy that he is.
In his foster’s own words, “This boy has grown immensely over the past couple of weeks, and I’m still learning about who he is each and every day, as he evolves and shows more and more of himself.”
Royce showed up so scared and full of fear, coming across as mean and aggressive. “From the dog he was then, to the sweetest most gentle boy now. I no longer see any of that aggression whatsoever. No growling at all. And the look in his eyes has changed from total fear to one of innocence and love.
“He loves to give kisses; he loves to be snuggled up right next to me and all the dogs when we’re on the couch. He sleeps in my bed with his body curled up next to mine.
He loves treats, and any kind of special food offerings.
“He loves when he’s told, “you’re such a good boy, you’re such a good boy, you’re such a good boy” accompanied by kisses to the side of his face.”
“He will need a home with people who will be patient and kind and extremely loving towards him. He has learned to love and I’m SO proud of him, but he is still shy.
I keep his leash on him all the time, because it’s like he regularly forgets that he doesn’t have to run away when approached. He also sometimes needs a little extra encouragement to go outside when all the other dogs run out, so the leash helps with that. When I took it off, we reverted to me needing to “chase” him, which I don’t like. So, the leash is back on.”
He is growing into a gracious and patient gentleman. "He would do just fine with another dog, and, in fact, it would probably be good for him. He takes cues from the other dogs, and that has definitely helped with his development and his comfort with connecting. At first, he was slow to give kisses, but after residing with the other boys who are big kissers and lickers, he now enjoys displaying affection as well. Now he is one of the pack, endlessly running to me for love and affection.”
“Royce would do best if his primary person were a woman. He doesn’t seem to warm up to men as easily but would probably do ok with a man in the household. And again, I want to emphasize his need for GENTLENESS and POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT. Gentle redirecting rather than loud voices. I do not think he would do well at all with someone who yells, or with a busy and loud household.
I haven’t seen him with little kids.”
“I can’t wait for the right person to fall in love with him.”
If you have made it this far, you now know how special Royce is, and know the care and time his foster has taken in getting to know this sensitive soul.
