Breed: terrier mix, neutered male
Age/Weight: 2ish years, 18ish lbs.
Likes: FOOD. Especially when it is thrown for him to chase/catch. Other dogs, Rusty seems to find comfort in their presence and enjoys playing with them big and small. I could see him getting annoyed by a relentless puppy.
Dislikes: new things, especially new people - Rusty is very slow to trust, but has made remarkable progress with counter conditioning, ie learning that humans can be pretty awesome and fun and not scary. He is still very hesitant to be touched and his default is to startle and run away. He is very sensitive to physical space, ie he has a big bubble, doesn’t like humans approaching him head on, doesn’t like feeling cornered, or trapped, etc. He is seeking interaction with me more and more. Rusty seems pretty focused on cats and squirrels and small things that run away. He isn’t chasing…. Yet…. But I could see him doing that if he gets more comfortable.
Crate training: Rusty sleeps in his crate with no issue. He will hide in there when scared.
Potty training: Rusty has a rare indoor marking incident but otherwise knows to potty outside.
Leash walking: Rusty has very minimal leash experience. Given his fear of novelty and big personal space bubble with humans, he has a really hard time walking on leash especially anywhere outside the house. Leash etiquette will take time.
