Sas (short for Sassafras)
9 yrs, neutered male, 15 lbs
LIKES: This sweet boy is very shy and skittish at first. But be patient, his snuggles and kisses are worth the wait! He loves walks and treats!
DISLIKES: Sudden movements, loud noises and being picked up.
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Once he trusts you he’ll follow you around and sit nearer and nearer until he feels safe to cuddle on your lap. This may take a week or more in a new environment. He loves little neck scratches and rubs, and he’ll reward you with a sweet smile and smirk!
POTTY TRAINING STATUS: No accidents in foster home. Sleeps through the night. He will scratch at back door or scratch at your foot to be let out. He used a doggy door in his previous home.
CRATE TRAINING STATUS: He is not a fan, and will whine and cry. He prefers to sleep at the bottom of the bed on top of the covers.
EXTRAS/MISC: He has some vision loss, and has some difficulty with low light or no light areas at night. He will not follow you if it’s too dark. At his foster home, a night light in hall helped him to feel comfortable enough. He would do well in home with older kids. He gets along with other dogs of varying size. Unknown with cats, but no observed prey drive. Occasional barker, usually when resident dogs bark first. We were told that when left outside unsupervised he may try to dig out to explore. So he needs secure backyard and should be supervised when outside. Sas came to us because his owner passed and he is looking for a comfy new home.

Tell us about yourself, family, other pets, and how SAS will mesh with your lifestyle. Qualifying applicants will be contacted by our Adoption Coordinator with next steps and an opportunity to set up a Meet & Greet.
Our process is NOT a “first come, first served” process. (We DO NOT hold pets for later consideration.) Our team carefully reviews and interviews applicants for the best possible fit for each adoptable pet, and potential family. Submitting an application does not guarantee a call or response from our rescue. Our volunteers will screen the applications and reach out if it is determined to be a good fit.
We look forward to facilitating a positive and solid adoption for SAS as well as his future family.
