Amber
1 year, spayed female, 11 lbs
Terrier Mix
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Amber (known as "Emmy Lou" in her foster home) was very shy/timid at first, but has turned into a fun, playful little girl! She is continuing to learn to trust people and she still prefers not to be picked up and held. But when you relax on the couch or in bed, she will come up to you and put her head on your neck for a hug. Dogs like her take time to adjust, but once you earn their trust, it is so rewarding! Amber is young, and is learning basic tricks and commands at her foster home including “sit” and coming when called.
LIKES: Playing with her two small foster dog siblings in the back yard. Amber has been learning and enjoying leash walks around the neighborhood/nature trails. She loves a good chew toys and dental chews (Whimzees) are becoming a favorite of hers. She also enjoys playing with small plush/crinkle/squeaky toys and balls. After learning the doggie door, she loves going outside to chase/play with the other resident dogs. At bedtime she likes sleeping on the bed with her foster family for a while, but when it’s time to sleep, she will get up and sleep in her own bed.
DISLIKES: Being left alone, but tolerates it with the company of her foster dog siblings. Loud noises. She was very scared of TV when and she would run and hide. Now, she tolerates it, but does growl at it every once in a while.
POTTY TRAINING STATUS: With access to the doggie door, there have been very few accidents in the house. Regular trips outside and continued positive reinforcement during potty breaks will help her.
CRATE TRAINING STATUS: She doesn't use a crate at her foster home currently.
EXTRAS/MISC. Amber needs to have another small breed dog in her adoptive home. This will help her continue to gain confidence as he learns about the human world. It is unknown how she will be with small children and/or cats, but she doesn’t care much for sudden movements and unexpected noises, so small children are not recommended. It takes a while to gain her trust, so the right person for her will have to be patient and help build her confidence with love and understanding.
