Avery

3 years, spayed female, 20 lbs

Chi/Terrier mix

LIKES: Avery is very food and treat motivated! She starts prancing when she sees it is food time. She is a little anxious, and loves the safety of her kennel. Avery loves belly pats and affection from her foster family, but doesn’t really know how to ask for them so she just prances as she backs away from you.

DISLIKES: Sudden noises/movements. Avery is still getting used to being picked up and will freeze when being picked up, but is starting to relax more with each time. Coming back inside the house from the yard can also be scary for her, but she will typically come in if you step far away from the door and let her come in at her own pace. Bribery with treats goes far, if all else fails.

PERSONALITY TRAITS: Avery is a very shy and timid girl who will need someone who is willing to be extremely patient with her. She will likely not bond immediately since she is scared of most everything still, but every day she is making huge strides at trying to come out of her little shell and show us her adorably sweet personality. She will need a gentle and patient hand to keep up her socialization, and someone who is willing to go at her pace.

POTTY TRAINING STATUS: Fully potty trained! Avery goes to the door when she needs to potty.

LEASH TRAINING STATUS: She doesn’t like being on leash yet and she will run away even if she does want to come to her person. She’s a timid sweet lady who assumes everyone is out to trap her. Being tethered seems to trigger her anxiety.

CRATE TRAINING STATUS: Loves her kennel and pen. *Will need a pen or xl kennel to get cozy and hide in while she tries to trust everything around her.

OTHER/MISC: Avery takes her cues from the other dogs in her foster home, and would do best in a home with a calm respectful dog companion. She isn't yet playful with the dogs in her foster home, but does seem to be learning to play with toys by watching them. She seems to really like the female tween in her foster home, and would get along with patient and gentle older children. She also needs a securely fenced yard so that she can potty and work on leash skills without incident. Because of Avery's anxiety, she must be adopted within 30 minutes of Eugene or Springfield.
