Nutmeg is a gentle, sweet-natured girl who takes a little time to warm up, but once she feels comfortable, her fun side truly shines—she absolutely loves playing chase with other dogs and loves splashing in the water! She is a loving dog who is learning to navigate the world at her own pace and is looking for a supportive human to help her build confidence. She has been working with a trainer and has been making progress. 

What Nutmeg Loves

Doggy Friends: She thrives around other dogs and gains a huge boost of confidence from having a canine buddy.

Her Safe Spaces: She loves cozy dog beds and having a dedicated, predictable spot where she can relax undisturbed. She also loves being outside and will need a home with a fenced yard where she can romp and play. She has shown a preference for being outside when nervous.

Tasty Treats: She is super motivated by treats and is a bit spoiled and picky about her food (she prefers a yummy topper on her kibble).

Respectful Distance: She loves people who understand dog body language and give her room to approach on her own terms.

Her Ideal Home & Environment

Nutmeg will do best in a calm, quiet, predictable home that can offer a few specific accommodations for her sensitive nature:

A Confident Resident Dog: Nutmeg requires a home with another friendly, medium-sized dog. Seeing another dog walk comfortably on indoor floors helps her feel safe doing the same.
A Quiet Atmosphere: She prefers a low-noise home without frequent unfamiliar visitors. She will warm up to new people, but needs a little time.

Management & Behavioral Needs

Nutmeg lives with anxiety and requires a patient, experienced adopter willing to help her work on building confidence and learning to trust the world. She has had professional training support for walks, and does best with another dog walking with her.

Boundaries & Space Management: Nutmeg communicates clearly when she feels overwhelmed or crowded. Her ideal adopter will excel at reading subtle body language, honoring her boundaries, and providing a safe, predictable routine. For this reason, a home without children is recommended.

With a confident dog companion, a quiet home, and an adopter who respects her need for personal space, Nutmeg has so much love to give. If you're ready to celebrate the small victories and move at her speed, she will be a wonderfully rewarding companion.

Tell us about yourself, family, other pets, and how NUTMEG will mesh with your lifestyle. Qualifying applicants will be contacted by our Adoption Coordinator with next steps and an opportunity to set up a Meet & Greet.

Our process is NOT a “first come, first served” process. (We DO NOT hold pets for later consideration.) Our team carefully reviews and interviews applicants for the best possible fit for each adoptable pet, and potential family. Submitting an application does not guarantee a call or response from our rescue. Our volunteers will screen the applications and reach out if it is determined to be a good fit.
