Sandro (aka “Scamp”)
2 years, neutered male, 11 pounds
Poodle/terrier mix
LIKES: Chasing, catching/retrieving, returning any and all flying objects tossed for him. He also appreciates snacks but isn’t a beggar (except for more tossing please). Also he likes a good belly rub and lap time affection in general. He’ll play with toys on his own, that is if no one wants to keep tossing them for him.
DISLIKES: When you stop the belly-rubbing! But he does recover quickly. He hasn’t had an easy time with wearing a harness or walking on a leash, so could use consistent work on this if desired. While he doesn’t seem to dislike his foster uncle dog, he hasn’t shown interest in playing with him either.
PERSONALITY TRAITS: This little guy is 100% enthusiastic about playing and has excellent skills in this department. Although he can be shy at first, once he feels safe with a person, he will eagerly invite you to join in the fun. Like many of our rescued dogs, he seems to find females easier to trust than male humans.
POTTY TRAINING: Frequent visits to the back yard in his foster home are helping with potty training.
CRATE: Generally a toy thrown in will entice him to enter his crate, and then he doesn’t complain until his foster mom comes home. On occasion he will go into the crate on his own for some quiet time. He has been left to wander freely for short periods unsupervised and he’s been fine. At night he visits the human bed for a bit and then goes into the living room to sleep alone. In the morning he comes for another visit.
OTHER/MISC: Sandro has been known to tear up used tissues, so covering trash is recommended. He has also put his face near a plate of food that was on the coffee table, so for now he needs an eye kept on him. He’s smart enough to learn what is and is not acceptable though, so hopefully this kind of sneaky behavior won’t last. He is bouncy and may be overwhelming for small children.
